In this feature of "We are DWS", a series to highlight the many contributions and achievements of our colleagues inside and outside DWS, we speak to Tom Bouchard, portfolio manager for high yield strategies based in New York.

Teamwork. Leadership. Courage.

These are character building traits we all aspire to in our daily lives, but few of us have ever faced battlefield situations where the strength of our character is tested. DWS’s Tom Bouchard is one such person.

Tom is a high yield portfolio manager based in New York who is distinguished in many ways: MBA from Boston College; U.S. Army Green Beret; Iraq and Afghan war veteran, and now, a two-star general.

Tom was recently promoted to Major General in the Army National Guard. He now helps lead all U.S. Special Operations Forces in the Reserve Component, including Army Special Forces Groups, Navy Special Warfare units, and Air Force Special Operations Wings.

Tom balances his DWS responsibilities with serving his country thanks to the skillset he learned in the military: managing and leading, accountability and collaboration. Also, sometimes very little sleep.

Tom is an active member of our DWS veterans EINS group DWS V.E.T., and enjoys mentoring and helping people in his community.

According to Tom, “DWS has been great in allowing me to do my day job while also serving my country.”

Gary Russell, Tom’s boss, and a West Point graduate himself, is incredibly proud of Tom for his accomplishments inside and outside of DWS.

Gary also recognizes how big of an accomplishment being promoted to the rank of Major General is in the military. “To excel at both is an incredible achievement and speaks to the incredible culture we have at DWS that enables employees like Tom to succeed.”
