Dear reader,

As a leading global asset manager, we are delighted to introduce you to an exciting study on “Friendvesting: The new architecture of investment in a fractured world” by Economist Impact, which we are proud to sponsor. Three hundred executives from North America, Europe and Asia have been interviewed. Their practical insights shed light on the challenges ahead.

The study reveals that geopolitical risks now play a greater role than ever in the minds of institutional investors. Military conflicts and resulting economic sanctions disrupt existing asset allocations, while longer-term changes such as new trade barriers and regulatory adjustments are profoundly impacting strategic direction. In this context, geography is emerging as a crucial risk factor. Investors are shifting their focus from purely economic indicators to a classification of alliances, adversaries, and neutral states - “Friendvesting” or investing alongside allied geopolitical groups with shared economic and strategic interests, will be a central strategy for institutional investors in 2025. Equities and bonds, which are highly responsive to political decisions, are particularly affected by geopolitical threats, forcing fund managers and investors to rethink old assumptions about risk and return.

We hope you find the results of the study as insightful as we do.
